Originally from Sweden and based in Los Angeles, Erika Apelgren is an award-winning writer, director, actor, and producer creating character-driven stories across film, theatre, and audio.
She is currently writing, directing, and producing City of Ambient, an original. Her previous work includes award-winning short films, a mini-documentary series, and a theatrical play, alongside several feature screenplays and projects spanning film, music videos, and commercials.
As a classically trained actor, Erika graduated from Stella Adler Academy of Acting and Theatre, where she studied under Oscar-winning director Milton Justice. In Sweden, she trained with acclaimed actors Stina Eklblad, Per Ragnar, and Mia Poppe.
Throughout her career in Los Angeles, Erika Apelgren has worked both in front of and behind the camera, collaborating with brands and artists including Tyra Banks, Giorgio Moroder, Sia, Nintendo, Clarion, Wella Professionals, and Fenty Beauty by Rihanna.
At the center of her work is a commitment to building original worlds and telling stories that challenge, entertain, and stay with an audience long after they end.
AWARDS
Erika’s work has received recognition across writing, directing, performance, and filmmaking. Her short film BFFR has earned multiple awards, including Best Director, Best Screenwriter, Best Performances, and Best Short.
Her screenwriting has also received international recognition. Where Dandelions Grow was named a finalist at the Cannes International Screenwriting Awards by CINAVERSE and the Dubai International CINEVERSE Screenplay Awards. Her screenplay The Tethering was a finalist at the Berlin International Screenwriting Festival and has also been selected by several film festivals.
These honors span Erika’s work both on the page and on screen, reflecting her multidisciplinary approach to storytelling.
